Questions

About YouTube chapters

How do YouTube chapters work?

Put a list of timestamps with titles in your video's description. YouTube turns it into chapters when the first timestamp is 0:00, there are at least 3 of them in ascending order, and each chapter is at least 10 seconds long.

Where do I get a transcript with timestamps?

On YouTube, open the video, expand the description and press “Show transcript”; select the text and copy it. Caption files (SRT or VTT) from your editor work too.

How are the chapter titles chosen?

The tool looks for points where the words being used change, places chapters there, and suggests a title from the words that stand out in each part. Treat the titles as a draft and rewrite them in your own words.

Is my transcript uploaded anywhere?

No. The tool runs entirely in your browser; nothing you paste is sent to a server.
